Pull Up a Chair
A companion post to Wonder & Wander, Episode 1
There's something that happens when men actually slow down.
Not the forced kind of slow — not a vacation where you're already thinking about Monday. The real kind. Where you sit somewhere quiet, let the noise settle, and just... breathe.
Most of us don't do that very often. Life doesn't exactly make room for it.
That's why I built Wonder & Wander.
I've been a counselor for years. I've sat across from a lot of men — men carrying things they've never said out loud. Questions rattling around that don't have answers yet. Weight that's been there so long they stopped noticing it.
And one of the things I keep coming back to is this: most men aren't looking for someone to fix them. They're looking for somewhere honest to land for a few minutes. Somewhere they can set something down without it being a big deal.
That's what this show is trying to be.
Why a campfire
Fire has always been the place where humans gathered. Long before therapy existed — long before any of the frameworks we use to talk about the inner life — there was a fire. And around it, people told stories. Asked hard questions. Sat with the ones that didn't have answers.
There's something about that image that feels true to me. Not clinical. Not polished. Just honest.
The campfire doesn't ask you to perform. It doesn't need you to have it figured out. It just holds the space — and lets whatever needs to come up, come up.
That's the spirit I'm trying to bring to every episode.
Who this is for
I had someone specific in mind when I started building this show.
He's carrying something he's never quite found words for. He might have a full life — work, family, responsibilities — and still feel somehow disconnected from it. He's used to being the one who holds things together. He doesn't talk about how he's actually doing. Not because he doesn't want to. But because nobody's really asked. Or because the framework he grew up with didn't leave room for it.
I know that guy. I've sat with him in my office. I've been him more than once.
Wonder & Wander is for him. And if that sounds like you — there's a seat here.
One question to sit with
Each episode ends with a question I'd invite you to carry with you. Here's the one from this first conversation:
What's one thing you've been carrying that you haven't quite found words for yet?
You don't have to have an answer. Just let yourself notice it.
Wonder & Wander is a weekly campfire podcast for men. New episodes every Wednesday.
